Why I Founded Climate Smart Communities SA

As a young South African who grew up in a marginalized community, I witnessed how inequality limits access to education, opportunities, and information. I realized that while climate change is one of the defining challenges of our generation, many children in underserved communities have little understanding of what it is, how it disproportionately impacts their lives, or how they can be part of the solution.
This inspired me to establish Climate Smart Communities SA, an initiative dedicated to educating young learners about climate change and empowering them to become environmental leaders in their communities.
Through partnerships with Phakamani Young Minds Academy (PYMA), Sunshine Cinema, and MN Risk Services, we provide engaging and practical climate education through films, discussions, environmental activities, and community projects.
Our goal is not only to raise awareness but also to inspire action through recycling initiatives, water conservation, food gardens, tree planting, and environmental campaigns.
I believe that education is one of the most powerful tools for creating lasting change. My vision is to develop a generation of climate-conscious leaders who understand that sustainability is about building healthier, more equitable, and more resilient communities for future generations.
